TWO INCREDIBLE GEMS
As a theatre producer, I would always strive to work with world-class artists to create the best production possible. Therefore, it should not be a surprise that I would do the same thing as I dip my toes in the musical industry.
I collaborated with two incredible gems: Matthew Shad and Bob St John.
A MUSICAL CHAMELEON
I would like to tip my proverbial cap to a musical chameleon, otherwise known as Matthew Shad. He’s a true instrumentalist, meaning he can play the heck out of drums and piano, shred and pick any type of guitar (electric, acoustic, bass, 12 string), along with having an incredible voice. I’m fortunate for him to be my coach, my mentor, and my friend. Matthew instilled confidence in me today that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.
Professionally, Matthew spent several years as musical director for Gioia Bruno from the group Exposé, recorded in Gloria Estefan’s legendary Crescent Moon Studios, and performed with Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame inductees Bon Jovi!
Matthew is lead singer and guitarist in the band SHAD, which features drummer Kevin Figuerido from the band Extreme. Their new album, A Cruel Void, produced by Bob St John, will be released later this year. Give them a follow.
PATIENCE OF A SAINT
Bob is a Grammy Award-winning producer best known for his work with Extreme, Duran Duran, & Collective Soul. St. John has also been behind the mixing console of Elton John, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler & Journey’s Steve Perry.
Bob had the patience of a Saint. I was a recording virgin and riddled with fear and insecurity. My creative background was guiding talent, not BEING the talent. I would continually make mistakes but Bob was calm, encouraging and incredibly supportive of the work(s).
