Happy Father’s Day.
Today, we pause to honor the fathers who shaped our lives — the ones we have lost, the ones who remain by our side, and the countless ways their influence continues to guide us. As I launch my new music website and celebrate the release of Reflection Tower, it feels especially fitting to recognize my father and revisit a sentiment I shared on social media a few months ago.
My father, Paul Simon (not the singer) is, amongst many incredible things, a photographer. His work has been featured in magazines and art galleries and graces the homes of many prominent art lovers. He specialized in infrared photography, which attempts to capture light beyond human vision, resulting in surreal images.
My dad never wanted to take photos of my kids — he would much rather capture intimate landscapes around the world. From Antarctica to Scotland to the English countryside with National Geographic, he pursued all his hobbies with tremendous passion.
Thankfully, my father is still with us, and I look forward to spending time with him today. The conversations we once shared have evolved over the years — from a symphony of laughter to a more delicate and sometimes uncertain melody — but the love remains unchanged.
Today, I will play Reflection Tower for him. I will show him this website, which stands in many ways as a tribute to his influence on my life. I will tell him about two new songs soon to be recorded, On the Cliff and Brilliant by Design. And I will share the photographs I have selected from his remarkable body of work — images that will help bring those songs to life. Most importantly, I will tell him what fathers deserve to hear far more often than they do:
I love you, Dad.
